Stevenage Male Voice Choir was formed in 1958 by employees of The English Electric Company (now MBDA*) in Stevenage. In the years since its founding the choir has had busy schedules of concert performances by which it has raised thousands of pounds for other local charities. Its history is strewn with awards and television appearances including Opportunity Knocks, Let the People Sing (BBC TV) and Carols at Christmas (Anglia TV). In recent years the choir has attained charitable status and has continued to give concert performances in order to raise money for local charities.   In addition, it has provided the entertainment for corporate functions at a number of venues including Hampton Court, Twickenham Rugby Ground and the Natural History Museum.   In 1998, as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of its founding, the members of the choir embarked on a concert tour of Eire, giving six concerts in all. In November 2001 the choir enjoyed a most successful tour of Malta and Gozo including the radio broadcast in Gozo of one of its concerts. In 2008 the choir will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee with a week's tour to Fontenaye and Chatelaillon (France) in May and a joint concert with Hitchin Symphony Orchestra in November, at which a new work will be performed which has been composed especially for the choir and orchestra.
